SEKISUI CHEMICAL AND THE TOKYO METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT DEMONSTRATE PEROVSKITE SOLAR CELLS AT A PORT FACILITY

Sekisui Chemical is working with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to popularize film-based perovskite solar cells. On May 24, it was announced that the installation of perovskite solar cells at the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal was completed and verification at the port facility had begun.

Taking advantage of perovskite solar cells' properties of being light, flexible, and able to be installed on curved surfaces, we installed them on a pole on the fourth floor deck of the Tokyo International Cruise Terminal. The electricity generated will be used to charge the storage battery and to light the TOKYO sign. Testing will be conducted by March 28, 2025 to confirm durability against wind pressure and salt damage.

We view port infrastructure as one of the important potential markets contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society and consider their applicability. Sekisui Chemical will conduct research and development to plan research, install perovskite solar cells, measure and analyze them, and apply them to port facilities. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is responsible for overall coordination and provision of installation locations.

Sekisui Chemical and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government previously installed perovskite solar cells on the roof of the Morigasaki Water Reclamation Center in May 2023. We are working to verify the anti-corrosion performance and installation method of the wastewater treatment facility before December 2025.

The company established a 30 cm wide roll production process and succeeded in producing film perovskite solar cells with an outdoor durability equivalent to 10 years and a power generation efficiency of 15.0%. In addition to this verification, we will demonstrate the technology for a variety of uses, establish installation and construction methods, and carry out development to establish a 1m width manufacturing process and further improve durability and power generation efficiency, aiming for commercialization in 2025 ( 7 Information page for Perovskite Solar Cell Workshop held on April 17 ).
