The exhibition ``Tadao Ando Exhibition - Youth'' by architect Tadao Ando being held in Korea is attracting many attendees. The stage is the museum "Museum SAN" (Wonju City) designed by Mr. Ando and creating a landscape in harmony with nature in a green resort complex. Many drawings and models showing the design process are on display, and you can view newly completed projects during the exhibition. It attracts men and women of all ages as a place to experience art with all five senses, along with the building itself.

The museum is located in the "Oak Valley Resort" in the mountains, about an hour and a half drive from Seoul. It will be run by the Hansol Cultural Foundation of Hansol Group, a subsidiary of the country's leading conglomerate, Samsung Group. The foundation's advisor Lee In-hee was very impressed with the Chichu Art Museum on Naoshima Island (Naoshima Town, Kagawa Prefecture) while visiting museums around the world and asked Mr. Ando to design it.

Mr. Ando said: “I was impressed by Mr. Lee's dedication in leaving a precious culture for the next generation. When I visited the area for the first time in 2005, I was immediately drawn to the charming beauty of this affluent area. "I wanted to take advantage of the natural environment and create a garden museum that can only be found here."

The water garden reflects the surrounding scenery
The museum opened in 2013. The main building and other buildings are located on about 7 hectares of land and about 700 meters long. “Architecture becomes terrain, and terrain becomes architecture, creating a new world like a microcosm” (Mr. Ando).

Zen Space II “Light Space”
Paju stone from Korea is used for the exterior walls. “We will create an art museum that shows the potential of the region and the time it takes to age and live in that place beautifully,” Ando said. Abundant amounts of light flood in through skylights, glass facades and lighting holes installed throughout the building. The four buildings are connected by square, triangular and circular spaces, expressing the philosophy of connecting people with heaven and earth.

Along the path there is a spacious flower garden with flower beds and sculptures, and a water garden where the surrounding scenery is reflected in the crystal clear water. There is also a stone garden with a series of smoothly curved rock formations modeled on ancient tombs from the Silla region of the country, as well as an exhibition facility by American contemporary artist James Turrell, with the theme of light and space.

Exhibition starts with green apple
Following the opening, facility maintenance work is underway. In 2019, the dome-shaped meditation space was completed by me in collaboration with Mr. Ando. There is an arched skylight that runs through the center and offers a program where you can experience meditation in light that changes over time.

Installation of the Naoshima project
A new meditation space II with the theme "light space" has been completed next to the flower garden. It was released to the media on July 16. It is available for viewing upon pre-order. This facility has been updated over the years and continues to bring new excitement to visitors.

Visitors admire the exhibition
The number of visitors to the museum was 50,000 a year when it first opened, but it has now increased to 250,000. Thanks to Mr. Ando's exhibition, the number of visitors is expected to increase further this year, expected to exceed 300,000 people.

The exhibition name is "Youth". "No matter how old I am, I still want to set goals and live a young life with hope," Ando said. At the museum entrance, a green apple object by Mr. Ando, named ``Youth'' is displayed. It is also on display at the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, sending the message of continuing to be a green apple with hidden potential.
The exhibition consists of four parts: ▽ Spatial Prototypes, ▽ Landscape Creation, ▽ Challenges to the City and ▽ Dialogue with History. ``Space Prototypes'' presents works from the first half of his career, from 1969, when he founded the Tadao Ando Institute of Architecture, until the mid-1990s. For the first time, Mr. Ando exhibited. photographs of his own architecture and his collection of detailed pencil drawings.
Mr. Ando is particularly interested in landscape as a concept that encompasses many different values, including the memory of local communities. "Landscape Creation" focuses on this aspect and displays installations that represent a 30-year project on Naoshima using video, music and models. Photos of the Valley Gallery, which opened last year displaying works by Yayoi Kusama and others, are also available, as well as a model of the new museum to be built in the future.
In the "City Challenge", the "Ground Zero Project" (draft plan) proposes to build a tomb for rest and reflection on the site of the World Trade Center that collapsed in the terrorist attacks 11 /9, and " Pulitzer Museum of Art, etc. It shows how he challenged the world as an "urban guerrilla" to restore the public nature of architecture. finally, "Dialogue with History", which showcases efforts to recreate old buildings while creating new modern spaces.Renovation projects such as "Bourse de Commerce", revive a building historic house in Paris, France into an art museum, is on display.
A special corner was also established to introduce documents related to the “SAN Museum”. "In this exhibition, you can experience the created space itself, along with drawings and models that show the design process," said Mr. Ando. "The building used as the exhibition venue is a large exhibition I want you to work and enjoy it," he commented.
Yun Byung-In, general director of the Hansol Foundation, proposed holding an exhibition thinking: ``This will be a meaningful exhibition because it will be held at Mr. Ando's building.' ' About 4,000 people visit on weekends, even though it is far from Seoul. A man who came as a couple smiled and said: ``It's a wonderful place where nature and space are in perfect harmony.'' Another feature is that “visitors are extremely
satisfied ” (Director Yoon). Due to its popularity, the exhibition was originally scheduled to last until July 30 but was later extended to October 31.
□ “Ando architecture” has spread in Korea □
Mr. Ando has been implementing projects in Korea since the mid-2000s and is involved in nine projects, including ongoing projects.
Last year, the LG Arts Center, a complex cultural facility, was completed in Seoul. Equipped with two theaters with excellent sound performance, many genres are performed. The 10 meter high elliptical walkway "Catalyst Pipe" penetrates, the "Step Atrium" connects the 2nd basement with the 3rd floor with a grand staircase and the large wall "Gate Arc" drawing an arc in the lobby is characteristic. A waiting room was also set up to display Mr. Ando's sketches.
Mime Vision Village, located in the forest of Yeoju City, designed three buildings, including the 'Church in the Forest'. In addition, we are also building “JCC Creative Center + JCC Art Center” (Seoul), which houses a concert hall and art museum, Yumin Art Museum (Jeju Island) and Ponte Museum (similar).
In a special corner of the exhibition, projects from Korea are also introduced. Mr. Ando said: “Through each job I can experience the depth of Korean culture. Korea and Japan should promote more active cultural exchanges to enhance mutual understanding."
