UK's First Hydrogen-to-Power Trial at Brigg Energy Park

On September 11, 2025, Brigg Energy Park in North Lincolnshire, UK, hosted the country's first hydrogen-to-power trial. The trial was conducted by Centrica and HiiROC, supported by the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC).

During the trial, HiiROC produced hydrogen on-site using its Thermal Plasma Electrolysis (TPE) technology and blended it with natural gas at a 3% ratio for one hour of operation. Although the hydrogen blend was modest, this trial marks a significant step in demonstrating the potential of using hydrogen to decarbonize gas-fired peak power plants.

This trial not only supports the UK's "Clean Power 2030" targets but also paves the way for utilizing existing infrastructure to produce and utilize clean hydrogen, reducing investment costs and benefiting the environment.
