    The Japan Federation of Construction Contractors (Nichikenren, Chairman Yoichi Miyamoto) announced on the 27th that construction orders for the first half of fiscal 2022 (April-September) for 94 member companies increased by 21.5% year-on-year to 7.5585 trillion. It was 100 million yen. Private-sector construction, which has been steadily progressing at a faster pace than before the corona crisis, has led to the highest amount in the past 20 years. Public office construction, which had been down for four consecutive months until August, is picking up on a monthly basis.


    The breakdown of the amount of construction orders received was 7.0549 trillion yen in Japan, an increase of 15.8%, and 503.7 billion yen in overseas, an increase of 284.8%. In Japan, the private sector increased by 21.3% to 5.3077 trillion yen, the public sector increased by 0.7% to 1.7119 trillion yen, and others increased by 147.2% to 35.3 billion yen. Looking at trends over the past 20 years based on the first half of the fiscal year, the domestic total amount is the second highest after fiscal 2016 (about 7.2 trillion yen), and the private sector has renewed the highest amount.


    In the private sector, the manufacturing industry increased by 75.7% to 1.483 trillion yen, and the non-manufacturing industry increased by 8.3% to 3.8247 trillion yen. By industry, seven types of manufacturing increased, excluding transportation machinery, and six types of non-manufacturing, including the real estate and service industries, which account for a large proportion of the total.


    Among public offices, government agencies increased by 5.3% to 1.1673 trillion yen, while local government agencies decreased by 8.1% to 544.6 billion yen. Among national institutions, the government increased by 42.6% to 625.3 billion yen, independent administrative agencies decreased by 4.6% to 95.8 billion yen, and government-affiliated companies decreased by 21.6% to 446.2 billion yen. Among local institutions, prefectures decreased by 30.3% to 108.6 billion yen,

    municipalities decreased by 22.5% to 258.5 billion yen, local governments increased by 77.6% to 116.7 billion yen, and others increased by 61.4%. 60.7 billion yen.
    According to the Japan Federation of Construction Workers' Union, orders for national port construction in Kyushu and condominium construction in the Kanto region received orders of 60 billion yen in September, boosting the total. The company expects to achieve the order target of each member company this fiscal year.
