China Unveils World's Largest Floating Offshore Wind Turbine
On October 5, 2025, China unveiled the world's largest floating offshore wind turbine, named Qihang. Developed by CRRC, this turbine boasts a capacity of 20 MW and features a rotor diameter of 853 feet (approximately 260 meters), equivalent to seven football fields.
Key Technical Specifications:
-
Capacity: 20 MW
-
Rotor Diameter: 853 feet (approximately 260 meters)
-
Hub Height: 495 feet (approximately 151 meters)
-
Type: Floating offshore wind turbine
Significance and Impact:
The Qihang turbine represents not only a technical marvel but also a significant step forward in renewable energy development in China. With its large capacity and floating design, this turbine can be installed in deeper waters where traditional fixed-bottom turbines are not feasible. This opens up new opportunities for large-scale wind energy generation, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and advancing the transition to clean energy.
