Making the most of sunlight with “battery + EV” Not only for self-consumption but also to supply electricity to neighboring houses during power outages

The husband who loves cars came up with the “tribrid energy storage system”. The effect is not only to reduce gasoline and electricity costs. From everyday life to disaster situations - the Yamamoto family has achieved a life with a smile on their faces.

Introducing solar power and tribrid together with EV
The Yamamoto family has achieved an ideal lifestyle with solar power generation, electric vehicles (EVs), and a triple-circuit energy storage system. Her husband works for an automobile manufacturer and has always loved driving cars. I often drive with my family, so I was worried about rising gasoline prices. However, by switching from a gasoline-powered car to an electric car and making the most of the sunlight, this problem was solved immediately.
In fact, Mr. Yamamoto's house had not installed solar panels before, and when he switched to an electric vehicle, he started generating solar power. In order to use the generated electricity as efficiently as possible, a triple-circuit energy storage system was also introduced.
When I changed my car, I installed a 5.7kW solar panel. The generated electricity will be fully utilized by the house and the electric vehicle.
The tribrid energy storage system is a unique solution from Nichicon that includes a power regulator, a storage battery, and a V2H base for charging and discharging the electric vehicle. Both the battery and the electric vehicle can store electricity with high efficiency, and the charge in the electric vehicle can also be used at home.
"My husband commutes to work by train and I don't drive, so I use the electric car as a second backup battery on weekdays. My family and I often drive on holidays, and even on those days I have a fixed backup battery, so I can generate electricity. There is no more wasted electricity. Not only do we no longer have to pay for gasoline, but the monthly electricity bill is also much lower than before," said his wife, who is in charge of family finances.

The V2H stand allows the electric car to be used as a large-capacity storage battery.

The Tribrid air conditioner (center of the photo) can be installed even in a narrow space.

Two storage batteries have been installed to ensure a storage capacity of 14.9kWh. Together with the electric car, a large-capacity energy storage system of nearly 80kWh has been realized.

Contributing to the local community by sending electricity to the surrounding area and
also useful as an emergency power source
Since Mr. Yamamoto installed the tribrid energy storage system, his area has experienced two power outages. Through this experience, the husband said, ``I realized that this system is a reliable source of electricity in times of disaster.''
The first power outage was caused by a strong typhoon in the fall of 2023. Fortunately, Mr. Yamamoto's house did not lose power, but a nearby power pole fell down and his neighbors were without power for two days. So Mr. Yamamoto used extension cords to supply the electricity stored in the storage battery and electric car to his neighbors. When that was not enough, he said, “We fully charged the electric car at a nearby charging station and asked them to use that electricity as well.”
"We can do this because we have a tribrid energy storage system that allows us to combine stationary storage batteries and mobile batteries (EV). The neighbors are very happy and it is a valuable experience for us. Now” (husband).

The Yamamoto family enjoys traveling by electric car on holidays. By introducing the solar power generation system and the tribrid energy storage system, they said they have more opportunities to talk about saving electricity and the environment.
The second blackout occurred on June 11, 2024. The substation accident caused a large-scale blackout that affected more than 40,000 homes and lasted about 30 minutes. At that time, Mr. Yamamoto's house lost power, but thanks to the tribrid energy storage system, he was not affected at all.
It seems that the tribrid energy storage system has brought many benefits for the Yamamoto family: reduced monthly energy costs and peace of mind as an emergency power source.
The husband also seemed happy and said, “My daughter has also started to take an interest in cars, and we are able to talk more and more. My son, who got his driver's license last year, has also been able to talk about electric vehicles.” and the environment.” Perhaps the biggest result of adopting this system is that family relationships have become even stronger.
