AT TOKYO DATA CENTER, 3 SOLAR SITES AND EXTERNAL PPAS

On July 18, data center operator At Tokyo (Koto-ku, Tokyo) signed an off-site PPA (power purchase agreement) with Advanced Maintenance (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and TEPCO Energy Partners (TEPCO EP, Chuo-ku, Tokyo). It was announced that the agreement has been signed.

Part of the electricity used at the Tokyo Center 3 (DC3) data center facility operated by the company will be converted to additional renewable energy. Power generation company Advanced Maintenance will supply electricity generated at three solar power plants it owns in Tochigi and Ibaraki prefectures to DC3 through TEPCO EP, a PPA operator.

There are two solar power plants in Tochigi Prefecture with a solar panel capacity of 1.83 MW and a grid-connected capacity of 1.15 MW and a panel capacity of 1.153 MW and a grid-connected capacity of 700 kW, and one site in Ibaraki Prefecture with a panel capacity of 651 kW and a grid-connected capacity of 550 kW. The average annual power supply for the three sites is expected to be 3.78 million kWh, equivalent to about 10.3% of DC3's annual power use.

TEPCO EP will be responsible for formulating and submitting the power generation plan, as well as bearing the imbalance costs associated with operating PPAs outside the facility. For non-solar power, we have introduced almost 100% renewable energy using the fossil-free certification service provided by TEPCO EP. This will be the first time that AT Tokyo has introduced additional renewable energy through a PPA.

At Tokyo operates data centers at 12 locations nationwide, including those of partner companies. Of these, five locations in Tokyo, including DC3, have switched to using almost 100% renewable energy, and since April, customer electricity used for IT, air conditioning, and office loads has been almost standard renewable energy. Going forward, the company plans to introduce significant renewable energy to data centers outside of Tokyo.
