Industry Leaders Call for New European Hydrogen Strategy
During European Hydrogen Week 2025, industry leaders gathered to call for a new hydrogen strategy to enhance Europe's resilience and energy autonomy. They emphasized that hydrogen is not just a climate tool but also a resilience instrument, enabling Europe to store renewable energy, secure industrial competitiveness, and reduce dependence on external suppliers.
Four strategic pillars are necessary:
-
Regulatory simplification and investment security: Investors need clear, simple, and lasting rules.
-
Lead markets to drive demand: Europe should seize this opportunity and create demand in core industries.
-
Mobility and infrastructure: Europe must now scale pilot projects along the entire value chain, from hydrogen production to transport and refueling stations.
-
Resilience strategy and energy sovereignty: Europe must produce, store, and refine much of its own fuels while strengthening strategic partnerships to diversify its energy imports.
The leaders called for the adoption of this strategy by early 2026, with support from EU Presidencies such as Cyprus and Ireland, to ensure Europe can build a sustainable, resilient, and decarbonized economy.
