The new Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium (Prefectural Gymnasium), which Kagawa Prefecture is currently building in the Sunport area of Takamatsu City, will open on February 24, 2025. It is an RC/S structure with one basement and two floors above ground, with a total area of 31,212 square meters, consisting of three buildings, a main arena, a secondary arena and a martial arts facility, like a small island floating in the Seto Inland Sea. The opening event sponsored by the prefecture will be held on March 15 and 16, an event that the people of the prefecture can participate in, organized by world-renowned designer Junko Koshino.
The main stadium will have 5,024 fixed seats, the largest in Chugoku and Shikoku, surpassing the Hiroshima Green Arena (Hiroshima City) with 4,698 seats. The maximum capacity is about 10,000 people, equivalent to the same arena. The design and supervision are carried out by SANAA Office, the construction is carried out by Obayashi Corporation, Goda Construction and Sugargumi JV, the electrical equipment is undertaken by Yodenko and Sanwa Dengyo JV, and the air conditioning equipment is undertaken by Sanken Ki Kogyo, Miki. The construction and Chicho Kogyo Joint Venture, the water supply and drainage and sanitary equipment are undertaken by Miyake Sangyo/Oda Equipment Joint Venture.
Construction will begin in March 2022 and is expected to be completed in November. The construction sites are Sunport 5 and other locations. Kagawa Arena Consortium, whose representative company is Anabuki Enterprises, will serve as the designated manager.
