Obayashi Corporation and other three companies have developed a system that controls the start-up of construction machinery by utilizing the driver's facial recognition and credentials. By registering in advance the construction equipment to be installed and the facial information of qualified personnel who can operate it, it is possible to prevent unqualified persons from operating the equipment. "Face Starter" was jointly developed with Sanshin Electric and Japan Computer Vision (Minato-ku, Tokyo, President Andrew Schwabecker). The driver's face and qualification information registered in advance are linked to the construction machine. By registering users according to site-specific rules, each construction machine can be restricted to specific companies or groups. Even if there are multiple construction machines that can be operated with the same qualification, each company can decide which machine to use, enabling smooth construction according to individual rules.
During development, we tested backhoes, forklifts, and carrier dumps to confirm the operating status. It has been operated without any major problems. The mechanisms related to the start-up of construction machinery are similar, and it can be expected to be used in various construction machinery with similar mechanisms.
In the past, construction machinery operator management was limited to key rental management, and even unqualified workers could start construction machinery with just the key.
