New President/Japan Federation of Architects and Engineers, Mr. Nobuaki Furuya, supports architects to respond to society

When he took over as president of the Japan Federation of Architectural Associations (Federation of Professional Architectural Associations), he set the theme of “establishing a federation that supports architects who respond to social needs and prefectural architect associations together”. Contexts that require large-scale responses, such as large-scale disasters, are increasing. Actively support block-based activities along with unit meetings, aiming to contribute to society. We will also focus on disseminating information to increase the presence of architects and encourage their participation. We will also explore how to evaluate qualifications based on future changes.

--What are your expectations when you are appointed?

``The responsibility of an architect is to create a living environment where people can live with peace of mind. We want to support members with a sense of mission so that they can carry out their activities without worry. There are seven blocks between the 47 unit associations and the Federation of Professional Associations, and when something happens, we have a mutual relationship in which other blocks support each other. We want to have multi-layered exchanges and support between the blocks. We need the momentum of the group to attract public interest. I want to make an effort. If there is interest, it will be very rewarding and motivate them to participate.'

"I want to work on new topics and increase the desire of young people to participate. I will also focus on creating opportunities for exposure to unknown fields and human resources. Both committees, including youth and women, have the potential to become pioneers in exploring new issues. I hope that they will bring positive encouragement to the entire organization. .''

This was a big realization after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Degeneration is increasing in many places, it is important to rebuild these areas."

“We need to be able to look at a town and see things like, ‘It would be nice to have something like this’ or ‘this is something’ we don’t have.’ Experience speaks volumes, but one person’s experience is limited. It’s important to share that experience as a group and give back to the community.”

--What do you understand about the rating system?

“A first-class architect includes both architects and engineers. This is a well-known qualification in disaster-prone Japan, but internationally, the professional competence of architects and engineers is considered different. Ethics There are two qualifications that can be used internationally to prove that an architect is an architect with design skills: a professional architect from the Federation of Certified Professional Architect Associations and a registered architect from the Japan Institute of Architects (JIA), but both are currently in decline.

``Considering domestic demand, international expansion will be required from now on. I think it is necessary to look at the next generation and look at the qualifications in the desired way in the future and come to a compromise. Both systems are
