SBIHD, PSMC/CONSTRUCTION OF SEMICONDUCTOR FACTORY IN OHIRA VILLAGE, MIYAGI PREFECTURE, INVESTMENT CAPITAL EXCEEDS 800 BILLION YEN

SBI Holdings (HD) and Taiwanese semiconductor major PSMC (chairman Huang Chong-ren) will build a semiconductor factory in the Second Sendai North Core Industrial Park in Ohira Village , Miyagi Prefecture. The expected investment scale is more than 800 billion yen. Of these, the construction of facilities and maintenance of some production lines will be considered the "first phase", with an expected investment of about 420 billion yen. The first phase will begin in 2027 and the second phase, which will further increase production, aims to begin operations in 2029.

The announcement was made on October 31 by SBIHD and JSMC (Minato-ku, Tokyo, co-represented by Makoto Miyazaki and Motoyu Wu), a Japanese corporation established by PSMC. SBIHD and JSMC started reviewing the construction site from August onwards. More than 30 local governments applied to host the project and Miyagi Prefecture was chosen based on the situation, including water supply, high voltage electricity, logistics and disaster prevention.

PSMC has the know-how to produce semiconductors of 28 nanometers or larger at low cost and in large quantities, meeting more than 90% of the demand for automotive semiconductors. The plant in Miyagi Prefecture plans to produce 28-nanometer, 40-nanometer and 55-nanometer semiconductors, with a monthly production capacity of 40,000 semiconductors. In the first phase, a building will be constructed and a production line with a monthly production capacity of 10,000 units will be put into operation. Since then, the company has continued to expand its facilities and will reach a monthly output of 40,000 wafers in the second phase.

A person in charge of the Miyagi Prefectural Industrial Site Promotion Office said, ``PSSMC already has the basic image of the building. From now on, it looks like they are planning to outsource the basic and detailed designs and start construction as soon as possible.'' . The second Sendai North Core Industrial Park is located approximately 24 km north of Sendai city center. It was developed and sold by the Miyagi Prefectural Land Development Corporation. Since the area is designated as an industrial zone under the city plan, “no procedures are required under the City Planning Act to construct this factory,” according to the same department.

On the same day, Governor of Miyagi Prefecture Yoshihiro Murai commented: ``To ensure the location and smooth operation of the factory, the province will provide maximum support for construction, ensure human resources and improve the living environment for employee.'' statement.
