BIOMASS POWER GENERATION IN ASHIKAGA CITY, TURNING UNUSED LOCAL MATERIALS INTO CHIPS

    On March 13, Exio Group, which specializes in handling telecommunications-related infrastructure, began commercial operation of the Ashikaga Eco-Power Plant, a wood biomass power plant with a capacity of about 7MW , in Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture.

    The project implementer will be Ashikaga Eco Power (Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture), a special purpose company (SPC) in which the company has invested. Electricity will be sold using the feed-in tariff (FIT) system.

    The fuel will be produced into wood chips using unused wood, conventional wood and pruned branches from the surrounding area, in cooperation with forestry stakeholders and chip companies. from Tochigi Prefecture and other neighboring provinces. It uses about 85,000 tons of fuel per year.

    Annual electricity production in the first year is expected to reach about 55.44 million kWh, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 15,000 households in general.

    Biomass boilers and power generation equipment are manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Power Industry.
