On the night of the 9th, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NUMO) held a "place for dialogue" in Suttsu-cho, Hokkaido, where it is conducting a literature survey for selecting a disposal site for high-level radioactive waste. NUMO explained the contents of consideration of the draft evaluation criteria for compiling the results of the literature survey. If the proposed criteria for faults and volcanoes are applied to Suttsu, he said, "At present, there is no clearly unsuitable land."

The "forum for dialogue" has been set up to deepen understanding of the geological disposal project and to have wide-ranging discussions among residents about how to revitalize the region for the future development of the town. Thirteen residents attended the meeting on the 9th.
