Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. Builds technology to acquire location information for racehorses, with high accuracy in real time

Kokusai Kogyo announced on the 17th that it had built a system to obtain highly accurate real-time location information from racehorses running at a speed of 55 kilometers per hour. The high-precision real-time positioning technology provided by a Finnish company is applied to the "high-precision positioning service" solution for racetracks provided by NTT Broadband Platform (NTTBP, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President Hiroshi Nakamura). As a result, it has become possible to obtain highly accurate location information for high-speed moving objects outdoors.
The solution for racetracks was jointly developed by NTTBP and the Kochi Prefecture Horse Racing Association. Kokusai Kogyo has developed a program to improve the positioning accuracy of track competitions and built a positioning system. Since 2009, the company has been improving and demonstrating its positioning system in more than 700 races with NTTBP and the Kochi Horse Racing Association. As a solution for racetracks, "high-precision positioning service," distribution of live broadcast video using location information was started in August.
Efforts and technological development to visualize the location information of athletes in sports competitions are progressing. However, there are restrictions such as the radio wave environment, the size and weight of the positioning device to be worn, and the movement speed of the positioning target. In particular, there were many technical problems in acquiring position information of high-speed outdoor moving objects with high accuracy.
