Goldwind Raises Green Methanol Target to 1.45 Million Tons: What’s Driving Its Determination?
November 21, 2025
Goldwind, one of the world’s leading wind turbine manufacturers and an emerging powerhouse in green methanol, has significantly raised the ambition of its flagship project in Xing’an League, Inner Mongolia. In October 2025, the company announced that the annual production target for the site had been increased from 850,000 tons to 1,450,000 tons, marking its second major capacity revision in less than a year.
The updated target was reaffirmed on November 17 during a press conference in Xing’an League, where Goldwind outlined a two-step schedule: 725,000 tons operational by 2026, and the full 1.45 million tons by 2027. To support this expansion, the company has committed an additional 13.1 billion RMB in investment.
From 500,000 to 1.45 million tons: A rapid escalation
Goldwind’s green methanol journey in Xing’an League began with modest expectations. The project was originally planned in two phases of 250,000 tons per year each. Phase 1 broke ground in April 2024 and entered operation in October 2025. When planning for Phase 2, Goldwind surprised the market by lifting capacity to 600,000 tons in July 2025.
Now, with a third phase added, the integrated complex will reach 1.45 million tons per year by 2027, positioning it as the largest green methanol plant in the world.
Confidence amid global uncertainty
Goldwind’s bold escalation comes at a time when the future of green methanol appears uncertain. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has delayed its vote on the Net-Zero Framework—raising questions about the timeline for maritime decarbonisation and the scale of future green methanol demand.
Yet Goldwind is moving ahead at full speed, signalling strong confidence in the long-term growth of methanol as a green fuel and industrial feedstock. The company’s continued investment suggests it sees structural drivers that go beyond immediate policy signals: the rise of methanol-powered vessels, China’s growing domestic demand for green fuels, and the increasing integration of renewable energy with hydrogen-derived products.
As global markets debate the pace of transition, Goldwind is making a clear statement. Its actions show a company betting decisively on green methanol as a cornerstone of the next-generation clean energy economy—and positioning itself ahead of the curve.
