The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will begin a study to extend the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit System), which connects the city center and the riverside areas, toward Tokyo Station. A public announcement was made on the 27th to investigate the estimated traffic volume of the route and its impact on existing traffic. We will evaluate the current situation at various locations around Tokyo Station and analyze whether it is possible to ensure fast and punctual delivery. The results of the analysis will be used in discussions with traffic managers when applying for operating permission.

In February, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government began operating the BRT "Athletes' Village Line" connecting Shinbashi and Shinbashi 5-chome (Harumi Flag) Station. As a result, all routes originally planned in the business plan have been opened. Meanwhile, there have been calls from local governments for an early extension of the line to Tokyo Station, which is currently under consideration. In the future, the plan is to cooperate with local wards and other organizations to improve the transportation network.
On the same day, the Capital Urban Development Authority announced a competitive bidding process to select a contractor for “a traffic situation survey related to the proposed BRT line connecting the city center and the riverside area in 2026.” Applications will be accepted through the e-bidding system until December 3. The auction will open on the 20th.
Those who are classified as A or B in “urban planning/transport planning services” and have registered in the field of “road planning/transport planning” can participate in the bidding.
This task involves creating a current map of target points (14 locations) designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and a trajectory map of BRT travel routes (19 routes). The target locations include bus stops in front of Tokyo Station, Otemachi Station, Kajibashi Station, and Ginza 4-chome Station. In addition, the volume of vehicles such as cars will be checked at 13 intersections near Tokyo Station. In addition to traffic jams and congestion times, the system will also verify traffic light conditions and measure the time required to travel from one target point to another. After the investigation, preliminary data will be required to be submitted within seven working days.
Implementation period until March 14, 2025.
