On the 6th, the Construction Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that it has selected Taisei Corporation as the contractor for the ``Construction of the New National Archives and Constitution Memorial Hall (R6) and Other Construction Works'' at a cost of 28 billion yen (excluding tax, hereinafter). The ``Similar Electrical Equipment Works (R6)'' was awarded to Denden, Chuo Electric Works and Asahi Electric Industries JV for 5.15 billion yen, and the ``Similar Elevator Equipment Works (24)'' was awarded to Hitachi Building Systems for 426.49 million yen. A new National Archives and Constitution Memorial Hall complex will be constructed with a total area of approximately 42,000 square meters in front of the National Diet Building in Nagatacho, Tokyo.

In both cases, open competitive bidding was conducted. Construction and electrical equipment are covered by the WTO Government Procurement Agreement. The bid opening date was November 12, 2024 for construction, December 4, 2024 for electrical equipment, and December 6, 2024 for elevator equipment. One company bid for construction and elevator equipment, one company and a consortium for electrical equipment, but another company declined. The estimated price was 28.1 billion yen for construction, 5.476 billion yen for electrical equipment, and 433.2 million yen for elevator equipment. The mechanical equipment construction work, which was scheduled to start on December 10, 2024, was canceled.
The construction site is 1-1-2 Nagatacho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo (land area: 16,090 square meters). The Public Archives and the Constitutional Government Memorial Hall are SRC buildings with 4 underground floors and 3 above ground floors, including a tower and 1 floor with a total area of 42,384 square meters. According to the detailed design, a total of 21,872 square meters will be reserved for the archives and a total of 4,920 square meters will be reserved for the Constitutional Government Memorial Hall. A parking lot (6,321 square meters) will be arranged underground. The grand staircase and exhibition hall have traditional plastered walls as well as floors and stairs made of oak and other woods. The space will be suitable for important Japanese documents. The architectural work involves the construction of buildings and the construction of elevator equipment. They are also tasked with maintaining the buildings, exterior works and landscaping. Construction is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2019 (with an additional deadline for construction to begin on March 31). Nikken Sekkei is in charge of the basic and detailed design.
