Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture has announced a design proposal for the east side of Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station. A circular deck with an excellent view connecting the station and surrounding facilities will be installed above Chuo-dori, creating a landscape suitable for the entrance of the city. On August 30, the "Chuo-dori Restructuring Coordination Committee" (chaired by Professor Takashi Ariga, Graduate School of Creative Science and Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University) reported the design plan to Mayor Tomohiro Mori.
According to the design proposal, the circular deck with a roof is assumed to have an outer diameter of 40.5 meters, a width of 4.5 meters, and a height of about 6 meters from the ground. It crosses Chuo-dori and connects the station building and the south side of the station smoothly without getting wet in the rain. A green open space is set up on the east side of the deck. Make it a view spot where you can enjoy an open view facing the sea. The pillars have a distinctive shape with the motif of the city's traditional handicraft "Hinaga Uchiwa".

At the station, the Chubu Regional Development Bureau decided to develop a bus terminal "Busta" that aggregates bus and taxi boarding and disembarking areas. In line with this, in order to reorganize Chuo-dori, the city will set up a coordination meeting in 2020 consisting of experts, traffic officials, members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, citizens, the Mie River National Highway Office of the Chubu Development Bureau, and the Mie Prefectural Land Development Department. . As of July this year, nine meetings and regional workshops have been held to discuss the functions and design of the station area and Chuo-dori.

The city will carry out the development of the station area, including the circular deck. According to the plan, a deck will also be set up on the west side of the station to cross Chuo-dori. Nikken Sekkei was in charge of the design. The goal is to complete the construction around 2027.
