Sumitomo Corporation guides small and medium-sized companies to reduce CO2. Effective verification and improvement measures
Sumitomo Corporation will introduce a service to encourage the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to 600 companies including small and medium-sized enterprises in 2024. Estimate the current emissions, show plans and means for reduction, verify the effects, and go through a cycle to devise the next measures. While efforts to decarbonize are spreading mainly to large companies, we will support companies that lack human resources and know-how.

We have just started a consulting service "GX (Green Transformation) Management". In cooperation with SCSK, we will provide a cloud service that collects data such as CO2 emission status. Based on the data, we will provide consulting such as making an improvement plan that incorporates concrete measures for controlling emissions. The usage fee is estimated individually. It will be provided to 600 companies in FY2012, aiming for sales of approximately 3 billion yen.
We will analyze the current situation by using the CO2 emission calculation system handled by domestic and overseas startups according to the business fields of customers such as finance and manufacturing. After that, a reduction menu will be created from the decarbonization-related services of Sumitomo, such as the installation of power-saving equipment and electric vehicle (EV) leasing. Create an action plan consisting of cost-effective measures. After implementation, the results will be calculated and the plan will be updated.
Initially, the company plans to develop its business centered on large companies and actively develop small and medium-sized companies. "There should be demand for decarbonization in SMEs in the value chain of large companies," said Tomoichi Nanbu.
CO2 emission "visualization" support services are spreading in Japan as well as in Europe and the United States. "It is rare for a service that has a cycle from reduction planning to evaluation / improvement measures" like Sumitomo (the company). In the future, the company plans to grasp emissions and make proposals for reductions, including from upstream to downstream of the supply chain of client companies, including business partners.
There are a series of decarbonization services for small and medium-sized enterprises by trading companies. Mitsui has started a service that can automatically calculate CO2 emissions based on invoices such as electricity bills, and aims to expand its introduction through alliances with regional banks. Toyota Tsusho will also collaborate with startup Zero Board (Tokyo, Minato) to market its CO2 emission calculation service to automobile-related companies. The monthly fee was reduced to several thousand yen per base, making it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to introduce.
Companies are expanding their efforts to decarbonize, and competition to acquire related human resources is occurring. According to Naomi Hatano, who is engaged in recruiting jobs in the environment and energy fields, "Although there are originally few human resources in the job change market, the number of job offers has tripled in the past year." There is a limit to how small and medium-sized enterprises, which have difficulty in acquiring human resources, can work on their own.
Investors with a strong interest in decarbonization may ask large companies to decarbonize their entire supply chain. One SME consultant said, "SMEs that cannot handle may reduce the volume of transactions with customers."
