On the 3rd, the Kyoto Prefectural Government held the first meeting of the "Conference on how sports facilities should be in Kyoto Prefecture" (chaired by Seizo Yamamoto, vice chairman of the Kyoto Prefectural Sports Association) at a hotel in Kyoto city, aiming for the development of new indoor sports facilities. and had a discussion. The social gathering is made up of 17 people, including academics and people involved in sports. On this day, we confirmed the current state of sports facilities in the prefecture, the situation in neighboring prefectures, and the status of consideration for the development of indoor sports facilities.
Shimadzu Arena Kyoto, the only indoor sports facility in the prefecture with more than 5,000 spectator seats (Daishogun Takatsukasa-cho, Kita-ku, site area 12,843 square meters), has been open for more than 50 years, and the facilities are aging and equipment. is becoming obsolete. As new arenas are being built in neighboring areas, it will be difficult to attract future tournaments, so we will consider the development of new facilities.
The new facility will have three basketball and volleyball courts, as well as more than 5,000 spectator seats that can accommodate volleyball world championship qualifiers. It is also expected to be used for disaster prevention functions such as evacuation centers, for MICE (international events) such as exhibition halls, and for cultural events such as concerts.
The construction site is a proposal to rebuild the prefectural university joint gymnasium (1-5 Shimogamohangicho, Sakyo-ku, site area: 104,576 square meters), and Mukomachi Velodrome (Mukichiji Temple), where the basic redevelopment plan is being formulated. Tomachi Nishinodan 5, land area of 56,535 square meters) will be considered in the future.
The committee members said that not only the floor area but also the facilities should meet international standards. I want to make it a base where people can drop by casually."
