Nippon Storage Battery Builds Fourth Grid-Connected Battery Plant in Iwata City
TMEIC supplies the battery storage system; Suzuki Electric handles construction
November 18, 2025

Japan Storage Battery Co. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) announced on November 14 that it has completed construction of the Mitsuke NC Iwata City Power Storage Plant, a grid-connected battery energy storage facility in Iwata City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The plant began receiving electricity on November 6. This marks the company’s fourth grid-connected battery storage project to be developed and operated.
The facility has a rated output of 1,988 kW and a storage capacity of 8,146 kWh. TMEIC built the storage system using battery cells manufactured by China’s CATL and power conditioning systems (PCS) produced by TMEIC. Suzuki Electric (Nasushiobara City, Tochigi Prefecture) carried out the installation work. The system will operate on the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX), participating in the supply–demand adjustment market and the capacity market.
The plant will also function as a disaster-response facility, capable of supplying electricity to the local area during emergencies. As the company expands its grid-connected battery storage projects nationwide, it is strengthening ties with local communities, including entering disaster-prevention cooperation agreements with municipal governments.
To date, the company has brought online the NC Kasugai Nishio Power Storage Plant in Kasugai City (Aichi Prefecture), the NC Karatsu Ouchicho Power Storage Plant in Karatsu City (Saga Prefecture), and the NC Hashima Ashikincho Power Storage Plant in Hashima City (Gifu Prefecture). Another facility, the Uki City Power Storage Plant in Kumamoto Prefecture, is scheduled to begin operation in December.
Japan Storage Battery plans to operate 80 energy storage plants by 2026. In addition to providing grid balancing through battery storage, the company aims to create a new market by offering storage plants as financial products and building an environment that allows more companies and investors to participate easily.
