The chemical multinational Solvay has inaugurated, at its Spinetta Marengo (Alessandria) plant, the new Aquivion prototype plant, an innovative technology for the production of materials for polymeric membranes, which integrates into a sustainable, renewable green hydrogen supply chain and carbon free, which also aims at development for the automotive sector.

It is – as explained by Solvay itself on its website – “a key material for the development of electrical energy storage and conversion systems, such as fuel cells, electrolysers and flow batteries used in synergy with plants of electricity production from zero-emission sources”.
As reported by the Ansa agency, the construction of the new plant required 36,000 hours of work, 2.2 km of pipes and total investments of 9.5 million euros, which were partly co-financed by the Government and from the Piedmont Region.
"The hydrogen economy is taking off and, with the materials made by Aquivion - underlined Andrea Diotto, Site Manager of the Spinetta Marengo plant - our plant is at the forefront", already handling a finished product today, to be sold to customers.
Aquivion, patented by Solvay, was developed by the Bollate Research Center (Milan) and is only manufactured in this configuration at the Alessandria site.
“With the inauguration of this plant, Piedmont confirms the validity and entrepreneurial liveliness that characterizes the territory. But also the ability to face the challenges of energy and ecological transition, starting to become a European reference point for the hydrogen supply chain" commented Matteo Marnati, Regional Councilor for the Environment, in a statement released by Solvay on the occasion of the inauguration .
