KYUSHU ELECTRIC POWER RENEWS 106-YEAR-OLD HYDROELECTRIC PLANT/STARTS CONSTRUCTION OF KUROKAWA PLANT NO. 2, LONG-TERM USE WITH FIP

    Kyushu Electric Power Company announced on the 1st that it began renovation work on the Kurokawa No. 2 power plant (hydroelectric, maximum capacity 1,800 kilowatts) in Minamiaso Village, Kumamoto Prefecture on the same day. It has been 106 years since the power plant began operating in 1918. Old electrical equipment and water pipes transporting water to the power plant will be replaced to enable long-term operation under the FIP system ( Feed-In Premium). It is expected to resume operations in March 2027.

    Maximum water use (9.6 cubic meters per second) and maximum output remain unchanged. The effective head will be 22.9 meters from 23.1 meters.
