KOSE / NEWLY BUILT FACTORY USING CO2-FREE ELECTRICITY, THE FIRST PROJECT USING 100% ELECTRICITY IN JAPAN BY KAJIMA

Kose will build its planned ``Minami Alps Factory'' in Minami Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture using carbon dioxide (CO2)-free electricity. This is the first construction project in Japan to use 100% hydroelectricity. Green hydrogen produced by the province will also be used during the operation phase. The aim is to make the entire plant carbon neutral (CN) by 2040. A basic agreement has been signed with Yamanashi Prefecture and other prefectures to build a model for the production and consumption of energy using local water. Kajima will handle the detailed design and construction and construction will begin in July.

During the construction phase, CO2-free electricity generated from the province's hydropower will be used. Electricity during operation will be provided from a power source that does not emit CO2 and is powered by solar energy. Thermal energy during operation will be used by transporting hydrogen produced with renewable energy at the Yonekurayama Electric Storage Technology Research Park (Kofu City). Initially, it will be around 10% and will increase depending on the situation. The company is also considering hydrogen production in the plant.

The construction site is Nogyujima in the same city. The land area is 111,525 square meters. In the first phase, a cosmetics factory (3-story S-frame building with a total area of 39,300 square meters) will be built, mainly producing a variety of skin care products. The investment amount is 25 billion to 30 billion yen. The basic design has not been announced. The aim is to start operations in the first half of 2026. In the future, we are considering extending it to a maximum of three terms.

Kose President Kazutoshi Kobayashi said: ``We were able to discover locally produced and consumed water-derived energy. We hope that Kashima will realize our construction using CO2-free electricity because they sympathize with our company's industrial efforts.'' I hope that many construction projects Further construction will be carried out.” Governor of Kotaro Nagasaki Province expressed his expectations: ``This will be an advanced model factory with high added value, making the most of locally produced energy.''
