A ground-level wind power generation facility will be installed in the Baltic Sea and commercial operations are expected to begin in 2026. The total capacity is 315MW (21 wind turbines of 15MW). Upon receiving approval from the local government, Kansai Electric Power will own 49% of Vindhankar Offshore Wind Power Company, a special purpose company (SPC), through a local consortium company.
This is Kansai Electric Power's fifth offshore wind power project overseas, bringing its total overseas owned capacity to approximately 3.007GW. Starting with this project, Kansai Electric Power and Iberdrola aim to cooperate in various overseas fields, including renewable energy.
Also on the same day, SMFL Mirai Partners (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance & Leasing (SMFL), announced that it has acquired a portion of the shares of a wind power plant. .
It is located off the Moray Firth in Scotland, UK and is expected to begin commercial operations in April 2022. Its total output is 950MW (9.5MW x 100 turbines), equivalent to about 1.43 million average households. The transfer of shares to SMFL Mirai Partners was completed in November and the ownership percentage has not been disclosed. Kansai Electric Power Company invested in Moray East through its overseas subsidiary in November 2018.
SMFL Group has so far participated in renewable energy projects with a cumulative capacity of more than 1.7GW.
