Kajima has set the standard for ``CO2-SUICOM'', a carbon-negative concrete produced by absorbing and fixing carbon dioxide (CO2). The conventional negative carbon type that absorbs and fixes more than 100 kg of CO2 per cubic meter of concrete is called "CO2-SUICOM (P)", and the new carbon-reducing type that absorbs and fixes less than 100 kg is called "CO2 -SUICOM (E).” It has been established that by establishing levels, the product range has expanded significantly. It will allow for wider expansion in the construction market.

Massive retaining wall using CO2-SUICOM (E) (from press release documents)
With the newly established CO2-SUICOM (E), although the CO2 absorption range (carbonation depth) of concrete increases with the carbonation curing time, the CO2 absorption rate is initially fast and gradually slows down. By calculating the most effective treatment time for CO2 absorption, carbon reduction can be achieved with a good balance between CO2 absorption and production costs.
We have also developed large-scale precast concrete (PCa) products (mass retaining walls) using CO2-SUICOM (E). Dimensions are 2m wide x 1m high x 0.35m thick. We have adopted a material design that can absorb and fix CO2, contributing to reducing CO2 emissions and achieving a balance between CO2 reduction and costs.
For each mass retaining wall, CO2 emissions are reduced by approximately 64 kg by replacing cementitious materials, and since approximately 40% of the cross-section is carbonated, the amount of CO2 absorbed and immobilized is approximately 8 kg. A total of approximately 72 kg of CO2 has been reduced compared to current products. It is estimated that the price will decrease by 33% compared to the previous model.
To demonstrate our ability to manufacture large PCa products, we conducted a production trial using CO2-SUICOM(E) for large block retaining walls in collaboration with PCa product manufacturer Keicon (Ward Fushimi, Kyoto City, Chairman Takashi Arakawa). After verifying the production process and quality, it was confirmed that mass production was possible.
In the future, we plan to bring large PCa products using CO2-SUICOM (E) into actual construction projects. We will collaborate with many PCa concrete product manufacturers to develop new PCa products and promote the comprehensive implementation of CO2-SUICOM nationwide.
