KAI installs PPA solar power at distribution center in Nagaoka city

KAI (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) will introduce an on-site PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) photovoltaic power generation facility at the Niigata Distribution Center in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. On March 17, the company announced that it had signed a contract with Urban Energy (Yokohama City), a PPA operator.

On-site PPA solar power generation service “Zero Emi Plan Onsite Service” and 100% renewable energy supply plan “Zero Emi Plan” powered by Urban Energy will be introduced. It will be fully operational from June.

A solar power generation facility with a panel capacity of 1293 kW and a power conditioning (PCS) capacity of 900 kW will be installed on the roof of the Niigata Distribution Center. The expected annual power output is 1,110 MWh. The generated electricity will be purchased by KAI and will be used indoors at the center.

In addition, excess energy will be supplied from Urban Energy as off-site PPA power to KAI's Headquarters in Tokyo (KAI Building) and Fukuoka Branch in Fukuoka City. Municipal Energy will be responsible for the concurrent work plan value and unbalanced charge burden associated with the external PPA.

With the service introduced this time, KAI will convert a total of three facilities into 100% CO2-free renewable energy facilities, reducing CO2 emissions by 545 tons per year. KAI aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2019).
