Models subject to voluntary collection / inspection
NEC and NEC Personal Computers, a subsidiary of the Lenovo Group in China, announced on the 4th that they will carry out voluntary collection and inspection of about 1.24 million laptop computers (PCs) for elementary and junior high schools due to smoke. It was sold to local governments and educational institutions as a product for the government's "GIGA School Concept" that distributes terminals to elementary and junior high schools one by one.

According to NEC, a total of five personal computers manufactured by NEC Personal Computers from July 2020 to November 2009 will be collected. It is more than half of the PCs sold by NEC for GIGA schools.
At a factory in China outsourced by NEC Personal Computer, it was shipped with unnecessary screws mixed in the vicinity of the battery.
In October 2009, when a terminal fell in an elementary school, it was discovered that a screw damaged the battery and smoked.
NEC Personal Computer will bear the cost of collection and inspection. The specific collection method and timing will be decided after coordination with local governments and educational institutions, but collection and inspection will start in February, with the aim of completing all models before summer vacation.
The cost of collection is undecided, and it is not assumed that an alternative machine will be prepared at the time of collection.
