In December 2023, Obton signed an agreement with BCPG for approximately 42.97 billion yen (equivalent to capital of 10.377 billion baht, of which the stock value is 6.935 billion baht) related to the acquisition of solar power production projects and related companies in Japan. The company signed a stock purchase agreement for a total amount of 10,000 baht and net debt of 3.442 million baht). The procedure is expected to be completed by the end of March 2024.
The companies being sold are group companies associated with solar power production projects at 9 locations in Japan with a total output of about 117MW. Among solar power generation projects with a total capacity of about 117MW, about 104MW have been put into operation and about 13MW are under development.
The selling company is BCPG Japan (BCPG Japan, Minato-ku, Tokyo), a Japanese corporation, and a special purpose company (SPC) for power generation projects, providing EPC (engineering , procurement and construction) and O&M (operation and maintenance services) BCPG Engineering (BCPG Engineering: Minato-ku, Tokyo) and other services.
BCPG Japan was originally a Japanese subsidiary of the American company SunEdison, which develops power generation projects in Japan. When SunEdison went bankrupt, BCPG acquired this Japanese corporation in February 2016 and took over operating and developing projects.
For example, the mid-range solar system in Nakatsugawa, Yusui-cho, Aira-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture, with a grid-connected capacity of 675kW, was developed during the SunEdison era and the EPC service was provided by SunEdison Construction (now BCPG Engineering) is responsible. ). Solar panels are manufactured by SunEdison, power air conditioners (PCS) are manufactured by Toshiba Mitsubishi Electric Industrial Systems (TMEIC) (Related column: Solar energy center in Yusui town adjacent to prison)
BCPG's total renewable energy power generation business output, including Japan, is approximately 2GW (2038MW). In addition to its home country of Thailand, the company also participates in solar, hydroelectric and wind power generation projects in Taiwan, Laos, Vietnam, the Philippines and the United States.
Proceeds from this sale will be invested in renewable energy production projects in other regions. The company said this is the right time to reinvest the proceeds from the sale of the Japanese business.
