The update news from Enapter: Introducing the world's first grid-friendly solar hydrogen home

Introducing the world's first grid-friendly solar hydrogen home. Congrats to our partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG!????Here’s how it works:

We’re glad to see the successful launch of the #FlexEhome,  which provides both thermal and electrical energy self-sufficiency – and contributes to the grid.

Currently, most buildings with photovoltaic systems and batteries have a major challenge. Too much electricity in summer and too little in winter. This places an increasing burden on the distribution grids and requires fossil reserve power plants.

And on top of this, an increasing number of "prosumer" buildings have grid-connected PV systems, which not only draw electricity from the grid but can also feed it into the distribution grid – in an unregulated manner. If the feed-in power of these prosumer buildings exceeds the power demand in the distribution grid, e.g. at the time of the midday peak, troublesome grid bottlenecks can occur.

Within FlexEhome the intelligent temporal use of energy storage systems aims to achieve highly flexible and thus grid-serving operation, at every second of the year.

In a bid to overcome this challenge of seasonal imbalances and wasted prosumer electricity, the project FlexEhome has taken a giant leap towards sustainable living. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action (#BMWK), the pilot house system only feeds electricity into the grid or withdraws from it when it serves the grid.

At its core is #picea, a long-term energy storage system by our partner HPS Home Power Solutions. It converts excess summer solar power into green hydrogen drawing on Enapter’s #AEM tech, providing electricity and waste heat during winter.

And instead of reducing the maximum feed-in power of the house’s individual PV systems to avoid grid bottlenecks – and thus causing renewable electricity to be unused and lost due to a lack of electricity grid flexibility – the picea can turn excess electricity at times of peak supply into green hydrogen, allowing grid-serving operation at any time of the year.

Soon, a family will call this innovative house their new home.

More than 500 picea systems have been sold already, and alongside a heat pump, they ensure year-round energy supply from self-generated solar power.

????But it’s not just for individual homes – HPS also offers the scalable multi-picea for larger buildings such as apartment buildings or commercial properties.

Are you also looking for a long-term energy storage solution, grid-friendly energy system or any other green hydrogen system? ????
