On the 8th, President Miyamoto Yoichi and Vice Presidents Oshimi Itsukazu and Hasuwa Kenji of the Japan Construction Federation (JCIF) visited Secretary General Komeito Nishida Sanehito and requested that the workload be secured for the mid-term national resilience implementation plan that the government plans to formulate in June. The government's draft proposal stated the scale of "about 20 trillion yen" within five years, and Secretary General Nishida responded, "We would like to make efforts to meet the requirement of 25 trillion yen."
The Japan Construction Industry Federation pointed out that actual spending on public works is decreasing due to rising material prices and labor costs. He emphasized that the construction industry has spare construction capacity and called for a medium-term implementation plan to secure a business scale of about 25 trillion yen within 5 years.
Regarding the scale of the project, Secretary General Nishida explained that the draft estimate of just over 20 trillion yen "has increased due to rising material prices, etc." and expressed understanding of the JCFC's request, saying it "is reasonable." He also mentioned the growing public concern about aging infrastructure due to damage caused by the Noto Peninsula earthquake, the road collapse in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, and the revision of the damage estimate caused by the Nankai Trough earthquake. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure measures and said, "We need to address the concerns of the people."
