On November 17, JR East will begin work on upgrading the inner and outer tracks of the Yamanote Line and the platform as part of the station improvement work at Shibuya Station. In renovation work that began in 2015, work was carried out in four phases, including relocating the platforms of the Saikyo Line and making the separate inner and outer platforms of the Yamanote Line the same. This time, as a final step, the tracks will be raised up to 20 cm to make the platforms of both the Saikyo and Yamate lines the same height. Expected completion by 11/20.

Switching work overview (from press release material)
Construction is expected to take around 52 hours from the last train on the 17th to the first train on the 20th. To ensure smooth work, the train will be halted on the 18th and the inner track (both last trains) on the 19th. The suspended section is located between Osaki and Ikebukuro.
The raised extension is expected to be approximately 334 meters at the inner circumference and about 346 meters at the outer circumference. As a result, the station improvement work that has been going on for about eight years is expected to be almost complete. JR East will begin a comprehensive redevelopment of the station concourse and surrounding areas.
