Tokyo Gas will invest in Windplus, the operator of the offshore wind farm "Wind Float Atlantic" in Portugal, marking the company's first foray into the floating wind power generation business overseas. On August 6, the company announced that it had signed an agreement with Ocean Winds, a Spanish offshore wind power generation company that owns a majority stake in Windplus.

Windfloat Atlantic is an offshore floating wind farm installed 20 km off the coast of Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal and began commercial operations in July 2020. The generating capacity is 25.2 MW (3 wind turbines of 8.4 MW). Tokyo Gas will have a 21.20% stake in Windplus, Ocean Winds will have a 65.17% stake and Spanish energy company Repsol will have a 13.63% stake.
It will adopt the semi-submersible floating structure ``WindFloat Technology'' developed by the US Principle Power. It is rated as one of the world's leading level 9 mature technologies (field operation has been proven), has excellent structural stability, and can operate even on large ships with a maximum wave height of 20 m and a maximum instantaneous wind speed of up to 20 m. 38.8 m/s There is a record.
Through participation in this project, Tokyo Gas will strengthen its partnership with Ocean Winds, accumulate experience in operating offshore floating wind power generation, and especially develop advanced O&M (operation and maintenance) methods that make full use of digital and next-generation technologies. The company has also invested in Principle Power and aims to use the company's basic floating technology to rapidly realize offshore floating wind power generation in Japan.
Ocean Winds is a joint venture established in 2019 with 50% investment capital from EDP Renewables, a company of Portuguese electricity group EDP and ENGIE, a French energy company. Become a joint shareholder of Fundamental Power with Tokyo Gas.
