Nozomi Energy, a renewable energy company headquartered in Minato Ward, Tokyo, has started supplying electricity from its large solar power plants, balancing supply and demand on an hourly basis. The announcement was made on April 17.

Nozomi Energy is a business established by JERA Cross (a wholly owned subsidiary of JERA, headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo) and Actis of the UK. Using the "specific wholesale supply" system, which uses energy sources covered by the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) system to supply electricity, the company has started supplying electricity to consumers on the principle of hourly order matching (matching supply and demand on an hourly basis). This will realize the concept of "24/7 Carbon-Free Electricity (24/7 CFE)".

Nozomi Energy will supply renewable electricity generated at the Maki Solar Power Plant owned by the company in Chiba Prefecture to consumers through a specific wholesale supply. The solar panels of the power plant have a capacity of 24MW and the annual contracted power output is expected to be 30GWh.

In addition, Nozomi Energy and JERA Cross will cooperate to track electricity consumption and power generation over time, enabling hourly order matching to make the matching status of supply and demand transparent. The company will use technology from Granular Energy, a French joint venture company invested by JERA.

In addition, JERA Cross will also purchase renewable energy other than solar power from Nozomi Energy (the type of renewable energy, purchase amount, etc. were not disclosed). The customer was not disclosed. JERA Cross has been promoting efforts to achieve 24/7 CFE, including the commercial use of zero-emission thermal power generation technology using only hydrogen fuel.
