TESTING THE HEAT GENERATION PROPERTIES OF BIOMASS FUEL TO PREVENT POWER PLANT FIRES

On April 15, Chugai Technos (Hiroshima City), which handles various testing, measurement and analysis services, began providing various testing services such as heat generation properties testing of biomass fuel and heat generation simulation for safety measures at biomass power plants have been published.

Biomass fuel has problems easily storing heat, and large-scale fires have occurred in places such as the Sodegaura Biomass Power Plant and the Taketoyo Thermal Power Plant. This time, in response to the consultation related to the accident, we will provide various testing services.

Test the thermogenic properties using fuels used at customers' power plants, such as wood pellets, wood chips and PKS (palm coconut shell), to understand and evaluate the thermogenic properties of the fuel biomass through various tests aimed at predicting spontaneous combustion during storage. . Test items include measuring shape (diameter, length, bulk density, angle of repose), thermal conductivity, specific heat, pressure drop, water activity, low temperature insulation testing, high temperature air flow test and moisture vapor transmission test.

Heat generation simulation analyzes the heat generation behavior of stored fuel by entering various parameters such as the geometry of the storage facility, environmental conditions, and heat generation characteristics as analysis conditions. As physical phenomena, we consider the exothermic reaction of fuel depending on the temperature and oxygen concentration in the atmosphere, oxygen consumption and the generation of carbon monoxide (CO) accompanying this reaction.

Dust explosion testing not only evaluates the explosive properties of accumulated dust (JIS Z8834, etc.) but also supports on-site measurements. The evaluation items are lower explosive limit concentration, limiting oxygen concentration and minimum ignition energy.

Prices provided are personal estimates. Because the service prioritizes solving customer problems, there are no set business goals. To date, the company has received three requests for heat generation characteristics testing, one heat generation simulation case for power companies and two dust explosion test cases for power-related companies. force.
