Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, will begin renovating the Nanyo Bunka Kaikan Hall, which was damaged by the earthquake that occurred at midnight on April 17, with the epicenter at the Bungo Canal. Tremors with a seismic intensity of 5+ were observed in the city. The hall remained closed after a ceiling panel collapsed and fell onto audience seats. In the June supplementary budget bill, 77 million yen was included as a commission fee for the design and renovation of the hall's ceiling.
This facility is affectionately known as “Nanbun” and is used as a venue for concerts and stage performances. It is a three-story reinforced concrete building with a capacity of 686 seats on the first floor and 548 seats on the second and third floors. It opened in 1987. The location is Chuocho 2-5-1.
Regarding ceilings specifically, the outsourced renovation design will meet fall protection standards and will also consider ways to maintain the same soundproofing as before. The contractor selection method and trial run period have not yet been determined.
