JAPAN POST CORPORATION, JR EAST GROUP/STRENGTHENING COOPERATION THROUGH FACILITY RENOVATION AND REDEVELOPMENT

◇Expand cooperation in the field of logistics

Japan Post Corporation and JR East Group are strengthening cooperation in many areas, including facility operations and urban redevelopment projects. In addition to the renovation and integrated operation of the station and post office, we are promoting the urban redevelopment project of the east exit of Yokohama Station. The two companies will also strengthen their partnership in logistics, including starting a service that can pick up parcels at station lockers. The two groups signed a cooperation agreement in February.

On the 12th, Japan Post, Japan Post and JR East announced specific future initiatives.

Both corporations have a large number of facilities such as post offices and railway stations, which require large amounts of money for maintenance, management and updates. In the future, we will promote comprehensive renovation of post offices and train stations, mainly in rural areas. The post office will be relocated to the station campus and rebuilt, and will operate synchronously even after completion, helping to reduce personnel costs. In the town of Kyonan, Chiba Prefecture, a complex is being built for the Katsuyama Post Office and Awa-Katsuyama Station on the JR Uchibo Line. It is expected to begin operations on July 16.

Nishi Ward of Yokohama City will promote the ``Yokohama Station East Exit Area Urban Redevelopment Project''. Japan Post Real Estate, JR East and Keikyu Corporation are participating as project partners in the consortium set to be established on the 10th. By redeveloping an area of approximately 1.3 hectares that includes Post Yokohama Central Palace, the aim was to create an attractive facility suitable for the gateway to Yokohama.

Additionally, to reduce the burden on delivery staff from having to deliver again, we will start a delivery service using station lockers. Lockers equipped with IT terminals have been installed at 15 stations in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Many functions such as receiving and sending money can be used, and payments can be made using a transport IC card. Service will begin on the 28th.

A dispensing pharmacy inside JR Sendai Station will begin a prescription delivery service in collaboration with Japan Post. There are also plans to hold a product exhibition in collaboration with Tokyo Station and the Tokyo Central Post Office. The two groups said, ``We will consider and promote other cooperative measures to contribute to solving social problems.''
