Siemens Gamesa to supply turbines for 112-MW offshore wind project in Japan

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) announced on Friday that it has booked a firm order to supply its turbines for a 112-MW offshore wind project in Japanese waters.
The contract was awarded by Japanese renewables company Green Power Investment Co Ltd. It includes the supply of 14 pieces of the SG 8.0-167 DD wind turbines of 8 MW each, and the provision of maintenance services for 15 years, the turbine maker said.
The turbine fleet will form the Ishikari wind farm, which the Japanese promoter will build some five kilometres (3.1 miles) off the coast of Ishikari Bay on the island of Hokkaido.
The installation of turbines is expected to start in July 2023.
The firm award represents the first offshore turbine order for Siemens Gamesa in Japan, having previously installed close to 600 MW on land, in addition to operating an maintaining 340 MW.
The SG 8.0-167 DD machine was designed to meet Japanese codes and standards regarding typhoons, seismic activity, temperatures and 50 Hertz operation, Siemens Gamesa added.
