Muroran City, Hokkaido and Shimizu Corporation signed an "Agreement on the use of the home port of Muroran Port by a self-propelled SEP ship" on the 13th. The city will adjust the quay of Muroran Port Sakimori Pier No. 7 and the cargo handling area so that the company can use it preferentially. The company will endeavor to contribute to the local economy by prioritizing the procurement of materials and equipment necessary for SEP ship operation from local contractors. On the same day, an agreement conclusion ceremony was held in the city, and Mayor Takeshi Aoyama of Muroran City and Takeshi Sekiguchi, Managing Executive Officer of Shimizu Corporation, signed an agreement.

The company is currently building a self-propelled SEP vessel (self-elevating work platform) with the world's largest crane capacity at the Japan Marine United Kure Plant (Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture), which will be completed in October. Is planned.

Muroran Port has geographical conditions that make it easy to access both the Sea of Japan side and the Pacific Ocean side. The harbor has sufficient water depth and a calm wave environment for large vessels to enter the port, and the seabed ground is also structured to be suitable for the landing of legs. Based on these conditions, it was agreed that the company's SEP vessel would use Muroran Port as its home port for five years from April 1, 2023.

At the signing ceremony, Mayor Aoyama welcomed the arrival of the SEP ship, saying, "This agreement is a wonderful project that is very significant in looking at future urban development and port development."

Senior Managing Executive Officer Sekiguchi said, "I would like to expand cooperation and collaboration with Muroran City and contribute to the development of the local economy with a small amount of effort. I hope to create a new carbon-neutral era in various ways." Regarding the offshore wind power business, he said, "There is also an estimate that the market will be 4 to 5 trillion yen in Japan. I would like to aim for the top share as a contractor."
