Seiwa Renewal Works, a Taisei Corporation company that handles foundation work and manufactures construction machinery, is embarking on a new business providing complete packages of solar power generation equipment and storage battery. The company plans to use it effectively in a variety of locations, including construction sites in mountainous areas and natural disaster areas where power supply is difficult. We introduced it to our factory and started verifying its effectiveness. The aim is to commercialize it in three years.

Factory-installed redox flow battery (supplied by Seiwa Renewal Works)
Redox flow batteries will be used as storage batteries. The battery uses a pump to circulate an electrolyte (vanadium sulfate) in the tank, causing a chemical reaction and storing electricity. It is not damaged even after repeated charging and discharging and can be used for more than 20 years. Complying with the BCP (Business Continuity Plan), the pump can be operated and charged/discharged using the backup power source inside the battery during a power outage. Nonflammable vanadium sulfate and flame retardant materials are used in battery components to reduce the risk of fire. Since output and battery capacity can be adjusted independently, flexible device design and operation is possible.
The company installed redox flow battery equipment from Sumitomo Electric Industries at the Seiwa RW Machinery Center plant (Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture) and began operating the equipment this month. Capacity is 160 kilowatt hours. Along with the batteries, 288 425-watt solar panels have been installed on the factory roof. When the amount of electricity generated by solar energy exceeds the amount of electricity used, the battery will be charged and when the demand for electricity is high, the battery will be discharged to provide electricity. It can meet about 60% of the electricity used in the factory.
Building on its own achievements, the company plans to expand its sales and rental business extensively. In addition to fixed types, we will also consider mobile types.
Kenji Kanamori, president of Seiwa Renewal Works, said: ``We hope to commercialize it from the third year of our three-year mid-term business plan, starting from fiscal 2024. We I want to find customers from many different angles, not just the construction industry.” State the policy clearly. Director Shigeo Yukinaga predicts, ``Redox flow batteries can also be used in hydroelectric and wind power generation facilities. If we deploy them in developing countries, we will also contribute internationally.''
