PowerX (Tokyo, Minato), a startup that develops an electric carrier that carries electricity produced by offshore wind power plants, announced on the 23rd that it will build a storage battery factory in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture. The annual capacity of batteries that can be produced is 5 million kilowatt hours. It is said to be the largest storage battery in Japan for about 10,000 units.

Construction will begin in 2022, and production of storage batteries will begin on a trial basis in 2011. In the spring of 2012, we plan to start shipping storage batteries for home use and storage batteries used for quick charging of electric vehicles (EVs).

PowerX is a startup founded in 2009. The idea is to develop a storage battery, build a ship equipped with a storage battery, and transport the electricity generated by offshore wind power generation by sea. So far, it has partnered with major shipbuilding companies and electric power companies to raise funds for the construction and development of factories.
