Japan Atomic Energy Agency's new conversion reactor Fugen (Fukui Prefecture, decommissioning work in progress) will be outsourced to France for reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, and the extracted plutonium will be transferred to the country on the 20th. I found out in the interview. Sign a formal contract with a French nuclear company as early as this month.

Prior to the contract, the French and Japanese governments exchanged documents on the 15th regarding the transportation and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel and the return of high-level radioactive waste. It was agreed that the export of a total of 731 spent nuclear fuels from Fugen will start in April 2023 and will be completed by the end of FY2014.

The total amount of plutonium extracted by reprocessing is about 1.3 tons, and it is expected that it will be used as fuel for commercial nuclear power plants after being transferred to France. High-level radioactive waste will be returned to Japan.
