Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, plans to introduce new "articulated vehicles" such as BRT (Bus Rapid Transit System) on the JR Shinkin Freight Line to operate as public transportation connecting the north and south. We are considering creating a transportation system based on the Road Traffic Act and the Road Act, and if the system becomes a business, it will involve the development of dedicated routes, elevated tracks, and boarding and alighting facilities. In the future, the ward will finalize the facility plan, calculate the approximate project cost, and review the project plan.
The status of the study was reported to the Special Committee on Urban Infrastructure Development of the City Council held on the 27th. The Shinkin Transit Line runs north-south through the ward from JR Shin-Koiwa Station to JR Kanamachi Station. The ward is considering using the land for double-tracking and is considering implementing a new public transportation facility of about 7.1 km.
Developing a next-generation light rail transit (LRT) was also considered, but the intersection with Highway 6 and rising project costs became bottlenecks, making bus-only lanes the most viable option.
There are two bus-only routes: one is dedicated to the entire route and the other is a combination of dedicated and public roads. If the entire route is dedicated, the area around Kanamachi Station and the Takasago railway crossing will need to be raised. It crosses National Route 6 at a level crossing. If the route is combined with a regular road, no elevation will be needed but it will cause problems with punctuality. In both cases, the existing station plaza will be used for turning around vehicles.
Most sections will be double-tracked freight overland. The boarding and alighting points will be double-tracked to allow vehicles to pass each other, and platforms will be located in both directions. The facility is expected to be about 20 meters long and about 2 meters wide.
Reduce environmental impact by introducing electric vehicles (EVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). Vehicles and boarding facilities will be designed to become icons of the town.
