ORIX Real Estate (Minato-ku, Tokyo) and ORIX Hotel Management (Minato-ku, Tokyo) announced on August 30 that "Suginoi Hotel" will be installed at "Beppu Onsen Suginoi Hotel" in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, operated by ORIX Hotel Management. It was announced that the equipment renovation of the "Geothermal Power Plant" has been completed.

The power plant started operation in 1980 as the first geothermal power plant for a hotel in Japan. The power generation facility has been shut down since January 2022 due to its old age. This time, the power generation equipment was replaced from the conventional flash method to the binary method, which has higher power generation efficiency.
The new power plant is expected to have a capacity of 1.1MW and an annual electricity output of 6,224MWh. The electricity generated will be fully consumed by the Suginoi Hotel. This will provide approximately 30% of the electricity used by the hotel, reducing CO2 emissions by 2,956 tons per year. The capacity of the facility before the upgrade was 1.9MW, but the amount of electricity generated has decreased due to the reduction in steam.
The construction is being carried out by JFE Engineering. It will be the largest self-consumption geothermal power plant in Japan. It is also effective as a BCP (Business Continuity Plan) measure, as it can provide electricity even if commercial power is lost, such as in the event of a disaster.
Among ORIX Group's geothermal power plants, the Minami Kayabe Geothermal Power Plant located in Hakodate City, Hokkaido, which has been in operation since May, with a capacity of 6.5MW, is Japan's largest binary system. In addition, it is under development at several other locations in Japan, including Hachijojima, Tokyo.
