Hydrogen Science Coalition Publishes Dutch-Language Briefing for Policymakers
October 3, 2025
In April 2025, the two Dutch members of the Hydrogen Science Coalition submitted a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives’ Committee on Climate and Green Growth. The briefing aimed to present a science-based perspective on the role of hydrogen in the energy transition, supported by a range of peer-reviewed publications.
The letter addressed several key questions regarding hydrogen’s role in the energy system:
-
The use of hydrogen for heating homes and buildings.
-
Long-distance transport of hydrogen.
-
Hydrogen as a fuel for the mobility sector.
-
Hydrogen as a fuel for power plants to manage the intermittency of solar and wind.
-
Whether the costs of green hydrogen will decline.
-
The potential role of geologic (“white”) hydrogen.
-
The role of blue hydrogen as a transition option towards green hydrogen.
-
Where the use of green hydrogen makes sense.
The briefing underscores both the opportunities and limitations of hydrogen across different sectors, emphasising that its deployment must be guided by scientific evidence and careful cost-benefit considerations.
The Hydrogen Science Coalition has now published the Dutch-language briefing on its website, making it available as a resource for broader public and policymaking debates.
