The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will start construction work on a skateboarding area at Musashino Park in Fuchu City in early November. The area will be approximately 1,100 square meters. The ground will be paved and a half-pipe ramp will be installed, as well as a quarter-pipe ramp where people can practice turning, making it a facility that even beginners can enjoy. The goal is to complete it within the fiscal year and start using it from April 2025 onwards. We have received feedback from Tokyo residents that they want to enjoy skateboarding in the park.

Musashino Park is located at Tamacho 2, Fuchu City. The skateboard plaza will be located in the space in front of the fountain on the east side of the park and will be in the shape of a long rectangle running north and south. The area will be surrounded by fences to prevent accidental contact with other park users. A path will be provided in the park outside the fences installed on the east and west sides to ensure access for people other than skateboard plaza users.

In addition to skateboarding, the square will also feature inline skating and roller skating. In addition to the ramp, there will be 14 beginner sections, including jumps and rails. The number of people who can use this facility will be determined in the future, taking into account other facilities.
The square in front of the fountain that will be developed this time has previously been open to skateboarders under certain regulations. In late August, the municipality held an on-site briefing about the construction work for nearby residents. According to the person in charge, “There were no specific objections.”
The Green Policy Research Institute will be responsible for the basic design and implementation of the skateboarding facility to be built this time. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to announce a tender notice to select a contractor as soon as possible. Construction contracts are expected to be awarded between late October and early November. Construction costs have not yet been determined.
Currently, Komazawa Olympic Park in Setagaya Ward is the only urban park with a dedicated square that can be used by beginners. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is considering creating a dedicated square in an urban park in the Tama area.
