The Federation of Construction Industry Specialized Organizations (Kensenren, Chairman Shogo Iwata) held a national convention at Nissho Hall in Minato-ku, Tokyo on the 18th to commemorate its 20th anniversary. At the beginning, Chairman Iwata said, "The problems facing the construction industry are quite deep-rooted. It is important that we take the common path (of the specialized construction industry) laid down by our predecessors and work on it with the consensus of the Kensenren. We aim to be an industry where craftsmen can draw a vision of the future."
At the national convention, a panel discussion titled "The ideal form of contracting for the construction industry in the future" was held. In his speech, Chairman Iwata said, ``If we are to really secure workers, it is essential to improve wages and vacations from the perspective of workers, and to stabilize the contract amount, which is the source of that.''
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who sent a video message, prefaced by saying, "We are aiming to raise workers' wages as one of the national economic policies." The public and private sectors must work together to ensure that labor costs are distributed to skilled workers," he said. By improving working conditions, he said, "We will create an environment in which young people, who will lead the next generation, can enter the construction industry."
Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Tetsuo Saito, who was a guest, said, "I hope that the 20th anniversary will be an opportunity to promote even more meaningful activities and contribute to the further development of the construction industry." Natsuko Horii, Deputy Director-General for Employment Development for the Elderly and Disabled at the Employment Security Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, said, "I think efforts to raise wage levels will evolve in the future," referring to the minimum annual income guidelines for each occupation announced by Kensenren.
Yoichi Miyamoto, Chairman of the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors, said, "We are working with Kensenren and other specialized construction companies so that the construction industry can be reborn as an attractive new 4K industry that adds coolness to the new 3Ks (salary, vacation, and hope). Takanori Okumura, chairman of the Japan Association of Construction Contractors, said, "Most issues in the construction industry need to be considered by the industry as a whole.
