Denki Station (Fukuoka City), established with investment from Kyushu Railway Company (JR Kyushu), Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Kyushu Corporation (Fukuoka City), was announced on the 3rd and 21st as the project The first grid storage battery project in Kumamoto City We have completed the construction of the ``Denki no Eki Kawajiri'' power storage station that we are building for the grid.

We have built a specially designed ``Battery Station'' system to fit the unique land shape along the railway lines. The storage battery is "EV Battery", which is a stationary system of reusable EV (electric vehicle) batteries provided by 4R Energy (Yokohama City), a joint venture between Sumitomo Corporation and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Station" has been approved. Denki-no-Eki will be in charge of operating the electricity storage business.

The rated capacity is 1.5MW and the effective capacity is 6.0MWh. It can store about 350 reusable EV batteries and the batteries can be replaced. We also introduce control technology for scale-up (higher output and larger capacity). After conducting various tests to prepare for full operation of the facility, the company will enter the supply and demand adjustment market and capacity market. The business is expected to start in September.

In the Kyushu region, where a large amount of renewable energy, mainly solar energy, has been introduced, the role of storage batteries in adjusting the supply-demand balance of the grid becomes important. Denki-no-Eki will make efficient use of land along railway lines and idle land managed by JR Kyushu, and take advantage of JR Kyushu's maintenance management know-how and energy storage business know-how. Sumitomo Corporation to conduct grid storage battery business. It was established in April 2023 with investments from JR Kyushu, BS Holdings, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation that owns and manages storage battery equipment assets, and Sumitomo Corporation Kyushu.
JR Kyushu, Sumitomo Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation Kyushu signed a cooperation agreement with Kumamoto City in February 2024 to achieve carbon neutrality. In the future, we will expand our business to the entire Kyushu region while growing our business within Kumamoto City. Furthermore, using power stations as a foundation, we will consider regional energy services that provide safety and security to the region, such as releasing energy from battery storage in the event of a disaster.
