OSAKA LARGE-SCALE READY-MADE CONCRETE COOPERATIVE / CONCRETING WITH INCREASED USE OF RECYCLED AGGREGATES FOR UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES

The production of "reinforced concrete" using recycled aggregates has been certified by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Osaka Wide Area Ready-made Concrete Cooperative Association ( President Takahiro Kimura) is carrying out construction in Suminoe Ward, Osaka City. It is used as the implicit structural framework of the ``Advanced Technology Research and Development Collaborative Project''. Recycled aggregate is attracting attention as a material that contributes to resource turnover, but it is not widely used in general, and the cooperative is working to build a production and sales model in which the Intermediate processing company and ready-mix concrete factory cooperate. is popular recycled aggregate concrete.

Re-strengthened concrete, being developed by the Osaka Wide Area Ready Concrete Cooperative, is recycled aggregate concrete produced by crushing concrete lumps created during the demolition of buildings , etc. and use recycled aggregates with adjusted particle size. Recycled aggregate will be produced at the intermediate processing plant, recycled reinforced concrete will be produced at the ready-mix concrete plant.

Exterior perspective (provided by Osaka Large Ready Mix Concrete Association)

Recycled aggregate is an environmentally friendly material that recycles resources but is not widely used because there are very few manufacturers of recycled aggregate for concrete, as well as production costs and difficulty in quality control. quantity. The lack of achievement and social demands are also factors that prevent it from becoming popular.

Therefore, the cooperative has cooperated with HIRAYAMA (Chuo-ku, Osaka), which carries out intermediate treatment and is researching the development of reinforced concrete, conducting experiments in-house and on actual machines. . Recycled aggregate is called "re-strengthened aggregate" and is made into re-strengthened concrete by replacing a certain amount of conventional coarse aggregate.

For recycled aggregates, we use the JIS standard ``L Recycled Aggregates'' due to cost and production considerations. The quality of the material is guaranteed only by using demolition concrete covers.

Intermediate processors will produce re-strengthened aggregates with quality specified by the cooperative and by establishing a production and sales model at the ready-mix concrete plants of cooperative members, Recycled aggregate concrete will be popular.

On December 20, 2023, Fujita, the entity responsible for project construction, HIRAYAMA, the recycled aggregate producer, and four cooperative factories received ministerial certification for concrete production. About 1,000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete will be used at the construction site. During three days starting from the 11th of this month, Senboku Kogyo Concrete Plant, Shin-Kansai Ryoko Amagasaki Plant and Sakai Osaka Asano Concrete Plant poured reinforced concrete, in which 30% of the coarse aggregate was replaced with recycled coarse aggregate, into the frames of already constructed underground works.

Reinforced concrete produced at the Kansai Ube Sakai Plant is expected to be poured into the foundation structure in early February.

The cooperative will continue to grow with the goal of 50% replacement. For non-structural structures, 100% recycled coarse aggregate will be used and the company plans to use recycled fine aggregate in the future.
